Jamaican Coffee


The cultivation of the Jamaican coffee began in 575 A.D. During 575 A.D., the traders from Arab took the coffee plant from Africa to Yemen, a region in the Arabian Peninsula. The coffee plant contains cherry like fruits that is used to make the coffee. It was initially discovered by a shephered called Kaldi. Kaldi was curious about the plant so he took it to the nearby monastery. The abbot tried to make a soup out of the cherry plant. However, it tastes very bitter and he eventually threw it into the fire. When the cherry fruit was being burned in the fire, it gave out a sweet aroma smell. Later, the abbot created drinks from the cherry fruits. The cherry fruits referred by the abbot are coffee beans. There are two types of Jamaican coffee including Jamaica Blue Mountain and Jamaica Prime.

Jamaica Blue Mountain coffees are cultivated in the Blue Mountain area. Some of the sites where the Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee is grown include St. Thomas, and Portland. Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee is made from the highest quality of coffee seedlings that are approved by the Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica. The seedlings are sown in the farm during May and October. During the cultivation process, the coffee pant will be pruned several times. The fertilizers used in growing the coffee plant follow the guidelines of the authorities.

The Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee beans are rated as Grade 1 coffee beans. The screen sizes of the coffee beans have a size of 17/20 in order to be qualified as Grade 1. To experience the best taste and flavor, it is recommended that you grind the coffee before brewing it. You can drink this coffee with a basic ceramic mug. The Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee is roasted daily to ensure its freshness.

Jamaica Prime is being cultivated in several locations including Manchester, St. Catherine and etc. It is grown in a region that has lower altitude. It is recognized by the Coffee Industry Board. As premium quality gourmet coffee beans, the Coffee Industry Board had given it another name called Jamaica Mountain Choice Coffee.
